The parish church of Santa María in Alicante is the best example of mediaeval architecture still standing in this city and major Mediterranean port. It was built on an old mosque. It was built in the 13th century, in the Gothic style. After a fire the 15th century, it had to be rebuilt. The façade is baroque.
