In December 2012 I had the honour of visiting the #WW2 #military #cemetery at #Oosterbeek near #Arnhem in the #Netherlands. Here lie the graves of 1,759 allied servicemen, mostly British but also Polish, Canadian, Dutch, American, Australian and New Zealand, most of whom died during the Battle of Arnhem. I was there at sunset, it was absolutely silent apart from the bird sound and in the distance somebody letting off fireworks, which sounded eerily like gunfire. This is a very special place. #RIP #war #peace #respect #Airborne #WorldWar2 #travel #tourism #tourist #DarkTourism #graves #grave #graveyard #army #airforce #para #paratrooper

The #Yorkshire #stone built #cottage at the entrance to #Lawnswood #Cemetery, #Leeds dates back to 1875. They built houses properly in those days! Just look at those #chimneys. #Igersleeds #England #architecture #travel #tourism #tourist #life

9 years ago today, I was in Highland Beach, #Florida, I spent a couple of days there en-route from Orlando to Miami. Nice place, plenty of rich people live there, and there were lots of #cops! #Police #car #USA #travel #tourism #tourist #adventure #explore #seetheworld

The magnificent view from #Thira, #Santorini over the #Aegean #Sea towards the island Nea Kameni – a caldera from a volcanic crater. This was my first visit to #Greece in August 2005, suffice to say I liked it, and have been back several times since. #blue #island #cruise #ship #Mediterranean #geology #geography #travel #tourism #tourist #holiday #vacation #adventure #explore #seetheworld #IgersThira #IgersGreece #Cyclades #kikladhes

Trains don’t come much newer than these locomotives, which were on the port in #Izmir, #Turkey, where I had docked on a cruise ship in July 2013. #train #railway #wrapping #freight #loco #locomotive #travel #tourism #tourist #holiday #vacation #adventure #explore #seetheworld

Crowds of bargain hunters #shopping in the #bazaar in #Izmir, #Turkey. I’ve been here twice now, both times on cruises, and I have to say that Izmir is a very impressive #city in terms of attractions, infrastructure and general ambience. #people #market #shop #tradition #culture #Turkish #travel #tourism #tourist #IgersIzmir #Mediterranean #holiday #vacation #adventure #explore #seetheworld

The six towers and dome of #Istanbul’s huge and impressive Blue #Mosque, which dwarfs the #trees of nearby Sultan Ahmet Park. I visited Istanbul for a day in August 2012, while on an Eastern #Mediterranean #cruise. It’s an enormous city, that I would certainly like to visit again for longer. #Turkey #architecture #Islam #Muslim #building #tower #religion #worship #travel #tourism #tourist #attraction #adventure #explore #seetheworld
